We are excited to announce that we are introducing a regular theme for each of our afternoon sessions (see below for details).  If you wish to increase/alter your sessions so your child can join in with these then please see Linda to either book up on a regular basis or you can also try them as a one-off (though these must be paid for in advance or on the day).  The cost will be the usual session price or can be included in your child’s 12½ hours if funded and booked termly.  Numbers will be limited (we can only have a maximum of 30 children in for a session) so book in advance to avoid any disappointment!

 

 

 

Monday - Music and Dance 

 Music and Dance enables the children to develop their language, helps them to see mathematical patterns in rhymes and rhythms, as well as being a means of expressing emotions and feelings, learning about many cultures and developing physical skills.  Music and Dance supports their creative development as it encourages children to respond to their own experiences in a unique and individual way if they wish.  These sessions will mainly be run by our experienced members of staff but we will also have termly visits (at no extra cost) from well-established music and movement groups.

                    

Tuesday - Pre-School Afternoon

 

This afternoon is for the children who will be moving onto school at the end of each term (sorry, but this afternoon is purely for the 4-year olds).  We aim to develop their confidence to help make the transition to school smooth.  We also encourage them to join in with a PE session; this supports physical development as it encourages their awareness of changes that happen to their bodies when they are active, and supports their personal, social and emotional development by developing independence skills when they change their clothes.   

 

Wednesday - ICT (Information & Communication Technologies)

 

In our ICT afternoons the children will also have the opportunity to investigate and use equipment that they can push, pull, lift and press.  ICT supports children's learning in the area of 'Knowledge and Understanding of the world' by allowing them to find out about and identify the uses of everyday technology and use information and communication technology (including our new laptops and child-friendly software) , and programmable toys to support their learning.

  

 

Thursday - Spanish Lessons

 

Sarah our Spanish teacher will be coming in on a Thursday afternoon to lead a Spanish lesson.  Children will learn basic Spanish words and numbers in an enjoyable way involving creative and musical methods. The pre-schoolers have always loved these sessions and now even the youngest children seem to be interested and joining in the fun! 

  

 

Friday - Art & Craft  

 

There will still be a craft/painting activity in our other sessions but Friday afternoons will give them a chance to get really stuck in!  They will get the opportunity to express themselves in many different ways; they can explore colour mixing, learn the names of shapes and colours, experiment with different textures, create constructions, collages, paintings and drawings.  They can work either individually or as part of a group, and take pleasure in gaining more complex skills and feel pride in their achievements.

  

 

Please note that although there will be a set theme running through each afternoon there will still be the usual variety of other activities running alongside these so that your child can get the most out of their time at playgroup!  Please see a member of staff if you have any questions about the above.
